Police: Duquesne Birthday Party Shooting Not Random

DUQUESNE (KDKA) -- There is new information about a deadly shooting in Duquesne Saturday night.

Allegheny County police say the shooting victim, 18-year-old Drew Bracey, was the intended target.

Bracey, from Duquesne, was killed in the basement of the house in the 600-block of South Fifth Street. It was a sweet 16 party for Ebony Hawkins' daughter, but things turned sour just before midnight – minutes before the party was to end.

Hawkins says that's when those in the basement began screaming that someone was pushing open the basement door.

That door was not supposed to be open because Hawkins wanted everyone to enter through her kitchen so she could see who was coming in.

When the suspect opened the door, he also opened fire. Bracey was killed. Seven others were wounded.

Hawkins told KDKA's Brenda Waters someone lost a child Saturday night and others were hurt. She hopes the shooter has a conscience.

Hawkins also says her daughter is not doing well. It was her 16th birthday and the person killed was her friend.

In the melee, Hawkins suffered a broken foot.

Allegheny County Police say so far, no arrests have been made.
