1 Dead, 3 Injured In Strip District Shooting

STRIP DISTRICT (KDKA) – Police are investigating after one person was killed and three others were injured in a shooting in Pittsburgh's Strip District Sunday morning.

Empty bottles littered 19th Street in the Strip District this morning in front of Club Fever. According to police, the shooting started inside around 1:19 a.m.

When officers arrived at the scene, they say they found two shooting victims inside. One was a 20-year-old man who was shot multiple times in torso, and at last report was listed in critical condition.

A 21-year-old man was also shot in the leg and was treated and released from the hospital.

"There was a report of a large fight followed by shots fired inside of Club Fever," said Commander Thomas Stangrecki, of the Pittsburgh Police. "When officers arrived, they found two people shot inside. One male was shot multiple times, was taken to the hospital in critical condition. The second male was wounded in the leg and has since been treated and released."

Following the incident inside the club, police say 27-year-old Shateecha Roach was shot in the neck and chest near the intersection of Penn Avenue and 20th Street.

She was taken to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital where she died while undergoing treatment.

"We determined that she was attending the club, and I'm not sure at what point that she left, but we're trying to find out more information," said Commander Stangrecki.

Roach was a young mother who worked for Pittsburgh Public Schools. On Sunday evening, the school district issued a statement following her death.

It reads in part: "For the past five years Shateesha Roach has served as a Personal Care Assistant at Pittsburgh Conroy.

"Affectionately known as "Ms. T," Ms. Roach was loved by students and staff. A kind and wonderful young woman, Ms. Roach was always on hand to offer help to anyone in need. She was at all times ready to give a smile or a hug to a student or colleague.

"The Pittsburgh Public Schools would like to extend its heartfelt condolences to the friends and family of Shateesha Roach. Ms. Roach was a vital member of the Pittsburgh Conroy school community. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her."

Police say a fourth victim, another 21-year-old man, reported being grazed by a bullet during the gunfire. Authorities say he'll be fine.

No arrests have been made and anyone with information is asked to call the Homicide Officer at (412)-323-7161.
