Slick Roads Possible For Morning Commute

HEMPFIELD TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- The overnight snow could complicate the Tuesday morning commute.

In Washington Township, icy conditions on Route 66 caused two crashes in less than 10 minutes late Monday.

In one incident, a truck rolled over, trapping the driver inside. He had to be taken to the hospital. Traffic was detoured off Route 66.

In Hempfield Township, road crews came in to treat the roads before they became too treacherous.

"We had the quick snow squalls come through and everything turned into a sheet of ice, so we're out salting, treating the roads," Mike Volpe with Hempfield Township Public Works said. "We'll be out here this evening and then we'll be out again for the morning rush."

A fleet of 27 trucks will work through the night.

Along Route 30, drivers went slowly.

"I just think, you know, it's January," Tom Zilli said. "Not that I like it, but it's about time. People shouldn't be shocked and it's really only a dusting and it's like a blizzard to people."
