McArdle Roadway Remains Closed

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A rock slide last night is continuing to cause problems for drivers on Mt. Washington as part of McArdle Roadway remains closed.

Part of the hillside gave way just before 7 p.m. Monday, bringing tons of rocks and debris down into the travel lanes. Fortunately, no one was injured.

City public works crews have been working to clean up the mess, but with an estimated 100 tons of material falling onto the road, it's been taking longer than expected to clear the debris from the road.

With additional concerns about the potential for another slide, the road remains closed between the Liberty Bridge and Grandview Avenue indefinitely.

"Our concern is the area up above -- closer to Grandview Avenue, we've seen some signs of that area up above -- that turf and dirt letting loose,"
Pittsburgh Public Works Director Rob Kaczorowski told KDKA-TV."

Kaczorowski said they're going to err on the side of caution and keep McArdle Roadway closed for now.
