Teen Dead, 3 Others Wounded In Duquesne Shooting

DUQUESNE (KDKA) -- A teenager is dead and three of his family members were wounded when a barrage of gunfire broke out at an apartment building in the City of Duquesne Saturday evening.

The shooting started shortly after 5 p.m. at the Hilltop Parkview Manor Apartments, a gated complex with a security guard posted outside, in the 2500-block of Duquesne Place Drive.

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office and Allegheny County homicide detectives were called to the scene following the shooting.

The Medical Examiner's Office has identified the victim as 16-year-old Daniel Peek.

Investigators say his 14-year-old brother as well as the boys' aunt and grandmother were also wounded in the incident. Their injuries are not considered life-threatening.

Investigators say the gunfire rang out after a knock at a door of an apartment in the complex.

According to authorities, the 14-year-old boy answered the door and that's when the shooting started. The boy reportedly slammed the door shut, but the volley of gunfire continued.

"All I saw was the hallway had bullet holes in it and her door… you could just see what happened," said Devonte Williams, a neighbor. "I didn't see any blood or nothing specific, but you could tell that whatever they were trying to do, they were really trying to do something."

Officials say they believe at least a dozen shots may have been fired.

Investigators believe Peek was fatally wounded when bullets went through the closed door. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives at Allegheny County Police headquarters say the ballistics indicate that there were several weapons used. They believe at least three gunmen may have been involved.

No arrests have been made.
