PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — A truck driver has died following an accident in the Strip District.
This happened on 32nd Street at the Restaurant Depot late Wednesday afternoon.
The driver of an 18-wheeler had just finished making a delivery when he somehow became pinned between his rig and the loading dock.
The driver is described as an Asian man in his 50’s. He was last seen around 2:50 p.m.
“And that’s the last the people that work here saw him until they came out at about 3:30 [p.m.] and they found him pinned up against the bay where his truck was parked,” Pittsburgh Police Sgt. William Gorman said.
The truck had to be backed away so paramedics could tend to the victim. He was then in critical condition.
He was taken to UPMC Mercy Hospital in traumatic cardiac arrest and later pronounced dead in the emergency room.
No one is clear as to why the truck – which was running at the time – began to move.
Accident investigators and homicide detectives are looking at surveillance video to better understand what happened.
“It appears the driver failed to set his parking brake as he was getting out to shut his doors, which the vehicle started to go in reverse, pinning him against the dock,” Pittsburgh Police Sgt. Daniel Connolly said.
The victim’s name has not been released
