WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP (KDKA) — A house fire in Butler County claimed the life of a woman this afternoon.

According to emergency dispatchers, firefighters were called to a fire at a home in the 300-block of Oneida Valley Road in Washington Township shortly after noon.

Dispatchers confirm that a woman had been trapped on the second floor as flames engulfed the home. Authorities have now confirmed that she died.

Her name has not been released, but she is believed to have been about 80-years-old.

The woman’s 18-year-old grandson was injured while trying to save her from the fire. He was taken to a local hospital by medical helicopter and there is no word on his condition at this time.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
