Washington Co. Doctor Stops Armed Robber

PETERS TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- Police say a man with a gun tried to rob a doctor's office in Washington County.

This happened at the offices of Dr. Oliver Herndon on Waterdam Plaza Drive in Peters Township Monday.

The gunman first approached a female employee.

"I think her initial response was probably to scream and then to cry when she was told to be quiet," Peters Township Police Capt. Michael Yanchak said. "That drew the doctor's attention. He came down the hall and confronted the suspect."

Yanchak said the gunman demanded money. At that time, the female employee was able to walk away.

"The doctor explained to him that the daily receipts had already been delivered to the bank and deposited and there was no money left in the doctor's office," he said.

Dr. Herndon continued the dialogue, leading the man to the lobby all the while with the gun until he ran away.

The suspect is described as a white male, about five-feet-seven-inches tall. He had a slight build and was about 160 pounds. Witnesses told police the suspect had brilliant blue eyes.
