Man Found Dead In West Mifflin Identified

WEST MIFFLIN (KDKA) -- Allegheny County police are investigating after the body of a man was discovered today in West Mifflin.

KDKA's Lynne Hayes-Freeland reports from the scene that the body was found in a wooded area near Midway Drive. He has been identified as 43-year-old David Loftin of Hazelwood.

The area nearby is owned by the Mon View Heights community development. Loftin, who had been reported missing, was found by two West Mifflin police officers.

"We had the girlfriend of the victim," Allegheny County Police Asst. Supt. James Morton said. "We interviewed her and she reported a missing person to West Mifflin on Monday and according to her initial story that she drove him up here late Saturday night into Sunday morning and he was supposed to call her back to come pick him up again and she was going to wait a short distance away.

"He never called her and she didn't know what happened so she just went back home and he never did call her."

Investigators say they believe the victim may have been shot sometime over the weekend inside of an apartment, and then ran down a hillside outside after he was wounded.

"He was not shot where he was found – we know that," Morton said. "We believe that he ran to where he was actually found."
