Overnight Fires Destroy Building In Herminie, Damage Apartments In Homestead

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- An overnight fire destroyed a building in Westmoreland County.

The fire started just after 1 a.m. in a building on Sewickley Avenue in Herminie.

Crews report the flames got so intense at one point that firefighters had to retreat and go on the defensive.

Officials say the building used to house a bar, but had been vacant for about a year.

So far, there is no word on what sparked that fire.

Meanwhile, another fire damaged an apartment building in Homestead late Wednesday.

It started just after 10 p.m. on East 8th Avenue.

No one was injured, but the Red Cross is assisting 10 people.

Officials say a bar is located on the bottom level of the building.

It's not clear though if the business was damaged.
