Armed Robbery At Primanti Bros. In North Versailles Under Investigation

NORTH VERSAILLES (KDKA) -- Police are searching for two suspects after an armed robbery overnight at a popular restaurant in North Versailles.

The robbery happened shortly after 1 a.m. at the Primanti Bros. on East Pittsburgh McKeesport Boulevard. Authorities say it was closing time and two employees were inside.

According to investigators, one of the employees was confronted by a man with a silver handgun while he was cleaning up.

"Forced him inside at gunpoint and forced him into an office where there was another employee in there counting the daily receipts," said Chief Vincent DiCenzo, of the North Versailles Police Department.

Officials say that's where the two suspects pulled out a bag with a velvet-like texture and told the employees to "fill it."

As they were leaving the building, investigators say the suspects fired one shot.

"They told the workers that if they heard sirens they would come back to the establishment tonight and do harm to them," said Chief DiCenzo. "As they were leaving the building, they fired a shot into the ceiling."

There is no word on how much money the suspects got away with.

Both were wearing masks and hoodies and were described as being African American males with slim builds and standing between five-feet-11-inches and six-feet tall.

Police say they are also investigating whether the robbery could be connected to hold ups earlier this month at the Buffalo Wild Wings in Wilkins Township and the Grande Pizza shop in North Huntingdon.

The robbery in North Huntingdon happened on Feb. 3 and the incident in Wilkins Township happened on Feb. 10.

Police are now issuing some advice for local restaurant employees.

"You have to be very observant and you have to use your head a little bit," Chief DiCenzo said.

The investigation continues. North Versailles police say they are talking to other agencies who have dealt with similar types of robberies.
