Pittsburgh Praised In USA Today Pop Culture Blog

CASTLE SHANNON (KDKA) -- More national attention for Pittsburgh.. and this time with a pop culture twist.

Pittsburgh has been ranked "Most Livable" before, and National Geographic Traveler even listed Pittsburgh as one the best destinations in the world. And now, an article written by Dennis Skrzycki from Castle Shannon is featured in a USA Today blog called Pop Candy.

Skrzycki is not a professional writer, but is a fan of the blog and decided to write something about his hometown.

"It was really just to be able to showcase what I felt personally are some cool unique attractions about Pittsburgh," said Skrzycki.

The list includes some of the pop-culture-related reasons to visit Pittsburgh – everything from the Andy Warhol Museum to rappers Wiz Khalifa and Mac Miller.

Skrzycki also lists reality TV as a reason Pittsburgh is special. He cites Hines Ward, Jackie Evancho, Amber Brkich and Jenna Morasca, who have all been successful on reality shows.

"Some people might not think that's a reason to come to Pittsburgh," Skrzycki points out. "There's a reason why people like Jenna Morasca have won 'Survivor.' I mean those kind of people are diverse."

He also lists the annual Anthrocon, a convention of people who enjoy dressing up as their favorite animal characters.

Coincidentally, Visit Pittsburgh has also recently taken a pop culture approach to their latest campaign for the city, and Beverly Morrow-Jones is pleased with the attention Skrzycki's list is getting.

"When something like this happens," Jones said. "We celebrate."
