Does It Really Do That? Tasty Top Cake Pops

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - Tasty Top Cake Pops claim its system makes it easy to make your own bite-sized treats. But, Does It Really Do That?

Bernadette Ogurchak agreed to help KDKA-TV's Jennifer Antkowiak test it out. She owns Heaven's Scent Pastries in Forest Hills

"I hope they work! We'll start selling them," Ogurchak said.

The directions say to spray and flour the silicone pan, which seemed odd because silicone is supposed to be non-stick on its own.

Then, Ogurchak mixed up a cake batter. She chose a yellow mix because she said that makes the sturdiest cake.

As directed, she fills each cup up to the top, careful not to overfill, then snaps the top and bottom together. The next step was to pop them in the oven for 18 to 22 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.

While the Tasty Top Cake Pops are baking, Ogurchak started making a batch the old-fashioned way.

The recipe is easy as Ogurchak put a small chocolate cake in the mixing bowl and turned it into fine crumbs. Then, she blended in some chocolate frosting.

She rolled the mixture into golf ball size portions, and put them in the freezer for a little while to set.

Once the Cake Pops were done, they let them cool off for 15 minutes as directed.

They were definitely not round like the ones on the box. To continue the test, they decided to pretend the Cake Pops were fine to see how the decorating would go.

The directions say to use melted chocolate to coat the Cake Pops then, dip the stick in some chocolate to act as glue,

Ogurchak dipped the Cake Pop, but felt like it was going to fall off the stick. It didn't fall off the stick, it slid the whole way down.

The old-fashioned cake pops felt sturdier from the start and they had no problem turning them in the chocolate or decorating. The best part was they came out round and tasted great.

So, Tasty Top Cake Pops claim to allow you to easily make delicious cake pops in minutes. Does It Really Do That?

"Not minutes, no and it's not really that easy, and it's not too fast," Ogurchak said. "I think the originals taste much better."
