Homeowners Deal With Flash Flooding In Fayette County

SOUTH UNION TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- Some people have muddy messes to clean up after water flooded some basements and garages in South Union Township, Fayette County.

Jim Marian, who lives along Union Street, says it looked like Niagara Falls when a torrent of rain water raced down the hill behind his house. He wound up with about six inches of water in his garage and basement.

On Derrick Avenue, Larry Nicklow says an elderly woman had to have her car towed when it flooded out in high water. Firefighters worked to clear storm sewers so the water would drain away.

Marcel Wetter, 87, says he and his wife are too old to deal with the stress and frustration of the flooding. He got about two or three inches of water in his basement.

Fayette County 911 reports that in German Township, Leckrone High House Road remained closed late Wednesday because of flooding and Palmer House was closed because of a rockslide.
