LANCASTER TOWNSHIP (KDKA) — State police say a 17-year-old is dead after he was struck by a tractor trailer overnight along Interstate 79 in Butler County.

The accident happened just before 1 a.m. on the southbound side of the road near mile post 90.9 in Lancaster Township.

The victim has been identified as Joseph Barone of Valencia.

According to state police, the teen was “standing near the dashed white line in the right lane of travel” when he was hit by the truck. The impact threw him into the left lane of travel.

State police say Barone was hit at least one more time by another truck and was then thrown from the road.

The Butler County Coroner’s Office pronounced the teen dead just after 4 a.m.

The investigation continues into the accident.
