Husband Of Slain Derry Teacher In Court

UNITY TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- The husband of a Derry Area Middle School teacher who was found dead last month was in court Tuesday.

David Stahl needed an attorney, so his preliminary hearing could not go forward. He was sent back to the Westmoreland County Jail.

"No comment," he said as he left court.

Stahl, accused of killing his 37-year-old wife, Rebecca, has not yet been assigned a public defender.

Her body was found under a blanket in an old nursery in Unity Township. The blanket is similar to others found at Stahl's home.

Leaves from shrubbery at the nursery were found on Stahl's boots and a bag containing Rebecca Stahl's driver's license and school ID was found in a freezer of the basement in Stahl's home.

Both of the IDs were burned. Police also found blood evidence inside the house.

A new date for the preliminary hearing has not been set.
