4-1-Zoo: 2012 Non-Conference Football Schedule Announced

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) -- With the addition of Temple to the Big East in football for the 2012 season, Pitt was able to announce part of its schedule Wednesday.

The Panthers released their 2012 non-conference schedule along with their home and away Big East opponents.

Adding Temple means each Big East school will have seven conference games. After West Virginia officially announced it was leaving for the Big 12 in 2012, Big East members were left with a hole in their schedules.

Temple fills that hole.

Here is Pitt's 2012 non-conference schedule:

Sept. 1 -- Youngstown State
Sept. 15 -- Virginia Tech
Sept. 22 -- Gardner-Webb
Oct. 6 -- at Buffalo
Nov. 3 -- at Notre Dame

Pitt will play Louisville, Rutgers and Temple at home in 2012 in Big East play. Cincinnati, UConn, Syracuse and USF will be away games.

No dates or times have been announced for conference games.

"We congratulate our in-state friends at Temple on their move to the Big East and are pleased to welcome them back to Heinz Field this fall," Pitt athletic director Steve Pederson said in a statement. "With Temple joining the league for football in 2012, our full schedule is now complete. The non-conference portion was recently finalized with an agreement to play Gardner-Webb."
