PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) — The Pirates first overall pick from the 2011 MLB Draft, pitcher Gerrit Cole, was reassigned to minor league camp.

Cole participated in two intrasquad scrimmaged this spring as a non-roster invitee to major league spring training in Bradenton, Fla.

Pirates general manager Neal Huntingdon anticipated making the move at this time and said he is happy Cole — who is still at least a year away from the major leagues — got a chance to participate in a major league camp.
