Ed Olczyk Takes Lundqvist Over Malkin For MVP
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) - NBC Sports hockey analyst, and former Penguins head coach, Ed Olczyk joined the Fan Morning Show on Monday to talk about the Penguins' current nine-game winning streak.
The Penguins are a force to be reckoned with right now and Ed says that the team will only improve with the returns of Sidney Crosby and Kris Letang.
Penguins fans are leading the "Malkin for Hart" campaign, trying to get their superstar center the NHL's MVP award. But, Olczyk says that right now Rangers' goaltender Henrik Lundqvist is the leading candidate. However, if the Penguins overtake the Rangers for the top spot in the Eastern Conference, he would give Malkin the nod.
Having been the head coach when the Penguins drafted Marc-Andre Fleury in 2003, Olczyk has great respect for the Penguins' netminder. About Fleury, Olczyk says, "he makes the stops when he has to."
