2 Charged After Bar Fight In Sharpsburg

SHARPSBURG (KDKA) - Dozens of people were involved in a brawl at a bar on St. Patrick's Day in Sharpsburg.

As a result, the owner of the bar ended up in handcuffs.

It was a bar fight to beat all bar fights at Big Pat's Bar on Main Street.

When it was over, both sides were blaming each other for the melee. However, the police chief said there is more than enough blame and charges to go around.

"Way outnumbered. My guys said it was crazy," Police Chief Leo Rudzki Jr. said.

What sparked the battle remains unclear, but police have their suspicions.

"Alcohol and a pool game just got out of control. Everybody started fighting," Chief Rudzki Jr. said.

The bartender said someone got caught doing something they shouldn't in the bars men's room.

"All I know is people were doing drugs in the bar. Tried to throw them out," Connie Sorochman said.

When the dust cleared, the bar's owner, Walter Rogowski, was in handcuffs along with a patron.

One woman said there were no drugs involved and that Rogowski was the problem.

"The owner just grabbed me by my hair and just started punching me. He was very intoxicated," she said.

"Their other friends were shooting pool. They weren't too happy about it, started screaming, swearing, coming at them and ended up hitting them with a bunch of pool sticks," Roberta Rihn said.

Police said there is no evidence of drug use in the bar.

"Second incident here in the last few months. We've notified the State police and the liquor control enforcement," Chief Rudzki, Jr. said.

Despite the apparent large number of people throwing punches, only Rogowski and another man were charged.

Some of those charges include aggravated assault and recklessly endangering the welfare of another person.
