Woman Killed, 2 Children Critically Injured In Route 119 Accident

UNIONTOWN (KDKA) -- A woman was killed and two young children have been injured in an accident involving a UPS truck and a car in Fayette County.

The accident happened on the northbound side of Route 119 just before the North Gallatin Avenue exit.

KDKA's Trina Orlando reports 49-year-old Christina Scott, of Ebensburg, was traveling northbound on Route 119 when her car broke down in a lane of traffic.

Officials say she got out of the car to get something out of trunk when she and her car were hit by a dual trailer UPS truck.

"From what we were told from witnesses, she was actually outside the vehicle with the back trunk up … it would have been in between both vehicles," Trooper Stefani Plume said.

The woman reportedly became pinned in between the truck and car. The car rolled over and came to a rest in the median.

"There were several people there who saw the crash occur," Plume said. "At this point, speed is not a factor. The reports that we got from the witnesses that were there at the scene said that he was traveling within the posted speed limit."

The driver of the truck was not hurt. Police say it's likely this crash was unavoidable and no charges are expected.

"It is a tragic accident," Plume said. "I mean, many of them are. We will investigate a little bit further to see what we're able to determine as far as speeds and circumstances involved, but it does appear to be just a terrible accident."

The children in the vehicle, ages one and two, are listed in critical condition.
