Penguins call up Despres, Strait

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) — The Pittsburgh Penguins called up defensemen Simon Despres and Brian Strait Monday, likely both in response to several defensive injuries suffered over the weekend.

Matt Niskanen has been out with an undisclosed injury. Ben Lovejoy, who was inserted into the lineup for Niskanen, left Sunday's game with an apparent leg injury. Kris Letang also was forced to leave Sunday's game, however he was able to return and finish.

The Penguins had a scheduled day off Monday, so it's unknown who will be in the lineup defensively Tuesday against the New York Islanders.

Despres has recorded a goal and three assists in 16 games with the Penguins this season. Strait has appeared in four games with the Penguins this season.
