Construction To Improve North Fayette Intersection

NORTH FAYETTE (KDKA) – The retail success of North Fayette and Robinson Town Centre and mall has not come without a price - traffic jams.

"On a scale of one to 10 it's about a two," said Joe Montagnese of Sewickley.

Heavy traffic results in driver impatience.

"On weekends it's very dangerous," said Montagnese.

The Summit Drive intersection with traffic getting off and on the inbound Parkway is the pinch point.

"It's really congested and around 4:30-5:00 at night it's absolutely crazy and if you're trying to get into town it's a nightmare," said Lisa Shelton of Raccoon Township.

When finished, the improvements will give you two turn lanes towards Lowes when you come from Robinson Township. Coming the other way, there will be a full lane built from Andrew Drive down to Montour Church Road.

This will allow for more of a turning lane onto the inbound Parkway. The traffic coming off the Parkway will get a protected left turn towards the Mall at Robinson and Robinson Town Centre.

Will this completely fix the problem for drivers?

"No. It will help the problem but it won't fix the problem," said Bob Grimm, the North Fayette Township manager. "People getting on and off the Parkway are going to see improvement as a result of the work and it will allow for better movement through this intersection."

The work is set to begin Monday night. Most of the work will be completed overnight and the project is expected to wrap up before the holidays.
