New Kensington Police Chief Ron Zellers Has Died

NEW KENSINGTON (KDKA) -- The community of New Kensington is remembering police chief Ron Zellers who died unexpectedly Thursday.

Zellers is a 24-year veteran of the New Kensington Police Department and has served as chief for the last two and a half years.

He died while doing yard work.

Friday, a black ribbon was placed outside the entrance to the police department and the flag outside city hall is flew at half-staff.

New Kensington police escorted Zellers' body from Greensburg to Pittsburgh where an autopsy will be performed.

Funeral arrangements are not yet final, but hundreds of police officers from Westmoreland County are expected to attend.
