MOUNT WASHINGTON (KDKA) – A woman and a child were able to escape from a burning home on Mount Washington Sunday afternoon.

According to officials at the scene, flames broke out at a home on Southern Avenue.

A witness said firefighters responded quickly, but the smoke and smell forced many people to take cover.

“The smell of smoke, you could smell the linoleum. I’m still shaking from it,” William Lungren said.

The interior of the home suffered significant damage, but the cause of the fire is unknown at this time.

There are no reported injuries.
