Elderly Man Charged With Beating Wife To Death
WHITEHALL (KDKA) -- An elderly Whitehall man accused of beating his wife to death with a pipe wrench has been transported from the hospital to jail.
Joseph Manning, 75, is charged with one count of criminal homicide.
"Joe coming out with a weapon and police just ended up tasing him and he dropped to the ground," Nancy Udovich, a neighbor, said. "He was out after that."
On Monday, Whitehall Police Chief Donald Dolfi told KDKA's Kym Gable the officer who used a taser on Manning in front of his Brant Drive home followed protocol.
"Obviously the taser is an instrument, is a tool and in this situation, it worked effectively and it brought the suspect under control," he said.
Allegheny County Police released no further details on a motive.
