Water Main Erupts In Castle Shannon

CASTLE SHANNON (KDKA) -- Water service has been restored in Castle Shannon today after a water main break created a geyser Monday evening along one local road.

At one point, the water was reportedly shooting 20 feet into the air.

The eight-inch, high-pressure main broke around 6 p.m. Monday along Blossom Hill Road and Gene Drive. Crews spent the overnight hours making repairs and cleaning up the mess.

The geyser sent rock and debris into the air and water into people's nearby homes.

Crews stopped the leak around 10 p.m. and worked to replace the pipe overnight.

This morning, officials said that Blossom Hill Road has been reopened and all water service is back on.

Pennsylvania American Disaster Service is now helping people who had property damage as a result of the break.
