Woman Accidentally Hits Son-In-Law, Grandchild In Tarentum

TARENTUM (KDKA) -- A freak accident in Tarentum sent a man and his 4-year-old son to the hospital.

The accident happened near the intersection of Mill Street and East 10th Avenue.

John Flatt and his 4-year-old son, Caleb, were taking an afternoon stroll near a creek.

Flatt's mother-in-law had just picked up her infant grandchild and was pulling away from the creek in a green pick-up truck.

The baby began fussing. The grandmother, Hope Vickers, became distracted.

"He was putting my little brother's shoe on and my grandmother accidentally hit him with her truck," Kristin Flatt said.

Both John Flatt and Caleb were taken to the hospital. Their injuries are not considered to be life-threatening.

Tarentum police are investigating. The grandmother will not be charged.
