SOUTH CONNELLSVILLE BOROUGH (KDKA) — State police in Fayette County are searching for a suspect after a woman was shot while sitting along the Youghiogheny River in South Connellsville Borough.

According to state police, 21-year-old Kelly Brooks, of Dunbar, was with a group of friends in the area known as South Connellsville Beach around 6:45 p.m. Wednesday when she was struck by the bullet.

Authorities say she was sitting on a rock when the bullet hit her left thigh and then went into her left forearm.

She was taken to Highlands Hospital for treatment and then flown to another hospital for further evaluation. She is expected to recover from her injuries.

State police say it is not known yet who fired the shot or from where it came.
