OHIO TOWNSHIP (KDKA) — Police are investigating after an early morning chase and crash that turned into a fatal incident in Ben Avon.

The SUV crashed off to the side of the road along Perrysville Avenue. Crews were seen towing away the vehicle just after 7 a.m.

According to the police chief in Ohio Township, authorities first spotted the SUV about two blocks away from the scene of the crash. It is unclear if police started to pursue the vehicle.

Police say the SUV sped off going the wrong way down a one-way street, and then crashed into a guardrail on Perrysville Avenue. The driver reportedly got out of the vehicle and went down the hillside.

Investigators report that the driver was found dead in the yard of a home down the hillside. Authorities say that person is believed to have taken their own life.

Officials have not released that person’s identity.

The police chief says authorities searched the vehicle briefly and found a half a bottle of wine but nothing else.

Authorities also say the SUV is not believed to have belonged to the driver, but was instead an employee vehicle.

The investigation into the incident continues.
