Elderly Man Found Beaten In Hopewell Township

HOPEWELL TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- An elderly man was bound, gagged and beaten inside his house in Hopewell Township, Beaver County.

Hopewell Township Police believe home invasion happened overnight.

It's believed one or more men broke into the house in the 4300-block of Beverly Drive and assaulted 81-year-old Daniel Santia.

Police say the men stole Santia's car and left the garage door open. Officers found the car a short distance away.

Santia was found by his home health care nurse Monday morning and flown by medical helicopter to a local hospital.

"I would say his condition is probably borderline right now," Assistant Hopewell Police Chief Gary Tranelli said. "He's an elderly gentleman and he took quite a beating."

Police hope to lift fingerprints from the car. They also want to know if Santia knew his assailants or if they were casing his home.

Investigators are also trying to determine what was stolen from the house.
