Man Killed In Penn Hills Hit-And-Run
PENN HILLS (KDKA) – Police continue to investigate after a man was struck and killed by a vehicle in Penn Hills early Wednesday morning.
According to authorities, a passerby called 911 when they noticed a body in the middle of Frankstown Road around 3:30 a.m.
Investigators say the man was struck as he tried to cross the street, and then was dragged by the vehicle.
Authorities say the alleged driver fled the scene, and the victim was left in the roadway.
Allegheny County Homicide detectives, as of Wednesday morning, did not yet have a vehicle description. But they say the vehicle could have been damaged in the crash.
There’s also a possibility that surveillance cameras may have captured the vehicle.
“We’re currently canvassing all the businesses in the area of the accident in hopes of finding surveillance video,” said Lt. Andrew Schurman, of Allegheny County Police. “We have found some and that’s currently being analyzed.”
The woman who lives just a few houses away from the crash said she woke up overnight to what she thought was a boom.
“I did not think nothing of it until my daughter woke me up this morning, and said, ‘Ma, she said, you got to get up and see this.’ She said there was a hit and run,” said Cheryl Partozoti, a neighbor. “I said, ‘Oh my God, I wonder if that’s what I heard last night?’”
“There is a remote possibility that the driver did not know he struck someone,” added Lt. Schurman. “If that’s the case, again, we’re asking that person to call the Allegheny County Homicide Unit.”
Anyone with information is asked to call Allegheny County Police at (412)-473-1300.
