Teens Report Attempted Luring In East McKeesport

EAST MCKEESPORT (KDKA) -- East McKeesport police put out an alert for black Jeep Liberty with Ohio plates in connection with an attempted child luring on Route 30 near a Get Go store.

The Jeep was operated by a white man about 40 years old.

East McKeesport Police Chief Russ Stroschein told KDKA-TV it appeared that the Jeep was a rental vehicle.

Four teenage boys were walking in the busy Route 30 neighborhood when the Jeep approached them, and asked them how to get to Monroeville. He then gave the boys money and asked them if they would like a ride.

KDKA's Ralph Iannotti reports:

They went into the Get Go and called police, but the driver took off before police arrived.

"We were walking back off the bridge coming from Walmart," one of the teens said. "The guy approached us there, asking us if we were going to Monroeville, if we had directions. Gave him directions, then he approached us later back at the Get Go, tried to lure us in his car."

Parents were concerned when they learned about the incident.

"I've lived here my whole life and it's always been a safe neighborhood," Stephanie Cosgrove said.

KDKA's Heather Abraham reports:
