NESHANNOCK TOWNSHIP (KDKA) — An alert neighbor is credited with helping a family escape a fire in Lawrence County.

The fire started at about midnight along Fairgreen Avenue in Neshannock Township.

A man noticed the flames and ran over to make sure his neighbor was okay.

The homeowner was asleep on the first floor and his son was on the second floor.

The man says they heard a loud crash and looked back to see the deck on fire.

The fire quickly spread through the house, causing a lot of damage.

The cause is under investigation.
