Candlelight Vigil Held For Trappers Club Shooting Victim

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Yet another candlelight vigil for another shooting victim.

"We have to stop this violence. We are losing our children, 'cause I lost my nephew," Wynona Hawkins Harper, the victim's aunt, said.

Relatives and friends of Donte Hawkins gathered on Hamilton Avenue Monday night outside the Trappers Club in Larimer, grieving for Hawkins.

Hawkins, a Penn Hills High School graduate who attends Clarion University, was fatally gunned down early Sunday morning at the club.

Another man was critically wounded.

"This club needs to shut down, we need to stop this senseless killing," Harper said.

Trappers was once known as the Travelers Social Club and back in 2006, after it was deemed a nuisance bar, it was closed by the District Attorney's Office. It was granted a new liquor license and reopened as the Trappers Club in 2009.

"We're crying from the grave, understand that, understand that," Harper said.

Donte's mother was too distraught to attend tonight's vigil, but earlier in the day she, too, called for the club to close.

"My son will never come home and say, 'Mom, I'm home. Call me. I love you,'" Monica Hawkins said.
