Driver Loses Control, Lands In Creek

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- An elderly man lost control of his car Monday in Carnegie and ended up in Chartiers Creek.

The man reportedly lost control of his vehicle, traveled through a wooded area and into the creek. The accident happened around 3 p.m. and took place at the 128-unit Honus Wagner Apartments.

Friends of the driver said he had just dropped off people that he took shopping. He was trying to find a parking spot behind the apartment building when he hit the gas pedal.

Police say the driver told them his foot became lodged between the brake pedal and the gas pedal, and then his Pontiac Vibe went airborne over the hillside and into the water.

"Upon arrival we found the vehicle ... was approximately 30 feet down the hillside," Carnegie police sergeant Mark Lint said. "There was an elderly driver. We spoke to the driver (and) he was complaining of some pain to the neck and back."

Police say the driver was taken to St. Clair Hospital.
