Overnight Fire Damages Laundromat In McKees Rocks

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A business in McKees Rocks was damaged when fire broke out there overnight.

Firefighters were called to the laundromat in the 1200-block of Chartiers Avenue around 12:20 a.m. The business is located next to a daycare.

When they arrived on scene, heavy flames and smoke could be seen coming from the structure.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but officials believe they know how it started.

"One of the dryers had clothing in it apparently where the fire started in that area," said Chief Nick Radoycis, of the McKees Rocks Fire Department. "We're not sure anyone was in the building at the time."

Crews say they had to ventilate the roof to keep the flames from spreading to nearby buildings.

It was the third fire along that stretch of road recently. A fire at a nearby apartment building left a woman dead a few weeks ago, and another house down the street caught fire a few months ago.
