Neighbors Concerned About Sinking Road In Hays

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The asphalt on a road in Pittsburgh's Hays neighborhood is crumbling and neighbors are concerned.

It's happening near on Hillburn Street near the corner of Wheeling Street.

"It's just going down and down and I'm afraid someone's really going to get hurt before they do anything," Darla Pryle told KDKA-TV.

Pryle said the road started to deteriorate earlier this year, but things went from bad to worse the past couple of weeks.

"It's getting to be danger, especially whenever they pick up kids and school buses come down here, turn around, or ACCESS or medicine delivery for these people that are sick and older," another neighbor, George Vargo, said.

Several neighbors said they thought that five or six water main breaks last year may be contributing to the road woes and two telephone poles on the street are even slightly bent because the road is sinking.

KDKA-TV's Ralph Iannotti was unsuccessful in trying to reach Pittsburgh Public Works Director Rob Kaczorowski.
