Unusual Item Stolen From Scott Twp. Business

SCOTT TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- A local company was robbed, but the suspected thief was caught on tape.

The burglary happened at Mechanical and Ceramics Solutions, located in Carnegie Industrial Park in Scott Township.

This is the second time the company has been burglarized in a year. The plant makes tungsten carbide.

"We believe he poured four boxes of what are tungsten carbide tiles," Scott Township Police Sgt. Jeff Skee said. "They're about an inch-and-a-half by one inch by an eighth of an inch thick. Believe he took about 2,000 of those."

Police say those tiles have a value of $6,000, so this burglar knew what he was doing.

Investigators say they have clear pictures of the burglar's getaway vehicle, a Chrysler Pacifica. Also, the tungsten carbide tiles can't be sold at many places.

They say only a small number of scrap yards would have any interest in the tiles that are barely bigger than a quarter.

"These are an odd metal," Skee said. "It's not a typical metal that would be stolen."
