PPG Aquarium Closed Friday After Small Fire At Zoo
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Officials at the Pittsburgh Zoo say the PPG Aquarium will be closed today following a fire there Thursday night.
The aquarium building had to be ventilated after the small electrical fire broke out around 9 p.m.
It was quickly contained.
Zoo officials say the aquarium will be closed today for repairs and cleaning.
A spokesperson for the zoo said the fire was above a tank that's being renovated and was empty.
Dr. Barbara Baker, president and CEO of the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium, said in a press release: "A small heater above a tank that is being renovated overheated. None of the marine life were injured or in any danger. The Pittsburgh Fire Department responded and the fire was quickly contained, causing little damage."
