Suspects Allegedly Left 2 Kids Home Alone During Burglary

FAIRCHANCE (KDKA) -- Police say burglary suspects left two kids home alone when they broke into a neighboring house.

The suspects entered the house on Deforest Avenue in Fairchance through a basement door. They were loading a furnace and stove worth about $500 into a truck when police arrived.

"You can see it hasn't been lived in for over 10 years," Martha Korona, the suspect's aunt, said. "So, they didn't break in – the door was open."

Martha Korona is Angela Mangold's aunt and rents her and her boyfriend the nearby house on Deforest Avenue where they allegedly left the 4- and 5-year-old boys alone during the burglary.

Mangold and Ben Lemansky are now facing charges of burglary, theft and endangering the welfare of children.

Korona says Mangold is a good mother and this is all a misunderstanding.

The owner of the property that was burglarized lives across the street. He told police Mangold and Lemansky did not have permission to be on his property.

"What I understand from her is that the owner of property said the place was going to be torn down and that she could go in and take whatever she wanted," Korona said.

Angela Mangold was brought to Uniontown Hospital after police say she tried to overdose on drugs at the scene.

Ben Lemansky was taken to the Fayette County Jail.
