New York Man Shot, Killed Overnight In Washington County

WASHINGTON, Pa. (KDKA) -- Police in Washington County continue to investigate after an overnight shooting outside of a bar left one man dead.

According to City of Washington police, 23-year-old Rensfield Jarvis, originally from New York, was shot multiple times along Ewing Street.

Authorities report Jarvis was inside a nearby bar, Pickles Saloon, with some friends before leaving alone. Neighbors say they heard the sound of gunshots around 12:30 a.m.

Police say they have reviewed surveillance video from the bar and tell KDKA that they don't believe there were any confrontations inside Pickles that may have led to the shooting outside.

Investigators say they also impounded a vehicle from near the scene.

"We are trying to determine if it was involved," said Lt. Dan Staneck, of the City of Washington Police. "Nobody there laid claim to it at the bar or in the neighborhood, so we towed it in and we're going to be looking into that further, get a search warrant to look into it. We don't know if it was the victim's car yet or if it could be tied to a suspect or not."

According to investigators, Jarvis is from New York State and had just moved to the Washington County area two months ago to stay with relatives.

While police in Washington County do not have a record on Jarvis, after talking with the victim's mother, they say they have learned that he may have an arrest record in New York.

Police say after an arrest for robbery, Javis' family said he moved from the Bronx to Washington County to start over.

Police also plan to look at city surveillance footage in the hopes it may have captured the suspect.

The investigation into the shooting continues.

Anyone with information is being asked to contact the City of Washington Police Department.
