Hawkins Village Shooting Victim Dies

RANKIN (KDKA) -- Police are investigating a brazen fatal shooting in Hawkins Village.

The gunfire broke out around noon on South Braddock Avenue. According to initial reports, the victim suffered a gunshot wound to the head.

Gunshots blew out the glass window in the doorway where police say it looks like William Harrington was shot while leaving his sister's apartment. Detectives say a lot of people saw this shooting.

"It is a very brazen act and while I am surprised that something like that would happen," Allegheny County Police Detective Andrew Schurman says, "I'm imploring upon the community to come forward and help us with this because we're going to need them to help solve this crime."

Very emotional family members of the victim came to the scene, including the victim's sister and his wife shocked by the violence and angry with whoever did this.

"Oh there's witnesses. Everybody knows who did it – trust me, they do – that's why it's a project," Lisa Harrington, the victim's sister, said. "Everybody run their mouth about this, everybody run their mouth about that. They better find who shot my brother."

"He's nice and people just don't' take him the wrong way," Renee Harrington, the victim's wife, said. "He's a nice person. He [doesn't] do [any] harm to [anybody]."

Harrington was taken to a local hospital where he later died.
