American Legion Post 80 Renamed In Honor Of Fallen Marine

WESTVIEW (KDKA) - On this Memorial Day, the townspeople gathered and the American Legion honored Marine Sergeant Joseph D. Caskey killed in 2010 in a forward action in Afghanistan.

They honored his family as well, including his brother Tech Sergeant Jeremy Caskey of the U.S. Air Force.

"And so we are just thankful for the sacrifice that was made and for the honor that was bestowed," he said.

And Joshua Caskey, a retired Marine Staff Sergeant, spoke of his brother Joe's heroism.

"And my bother shed blood … and my brother laid down his life for his country and I am damn proud of him for that," he said.

The three brothers had followed in the footsteps of their grandfather, a World War II veteran, and their father, Jerry, a sergeant in the Army who had cautioned his sons about the dangers.

"Seemingly this is what they were destined to do and they did it," he said. "I am so proud of Joe and the rest of my children for their character – not only for their character, but their sacrifice and their American spirit."

And so this American Legion Hall will forever honor Sgt. Joseph D. Caskey and his family who have served so long and so well and who have made the ultimate sacrifice.
