North Side Shooting Leaves 1 Dead

NORTH SIDE (KDKA) –Police are investigating after a man was killed in a shooting on the North Side Sunday night.

According to police, the shooting happened on Strauss Street around 9:30 p.m.

When officers arrived, they found a couple of people performing CPR on a man who had been shot multiple times.

"After the gentleman was lying here, we called 911. It was just chaotic," one woman said.

The victim was taken to Allegheny General Hospital, where he later died.

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner has identified the victim as Derek Brown, 32, of the North Side.

Another woman, who did not want to be identified, said her 10-year-old son was outside at the time of the shooting.

"As soon as I shut the door, I heard gunshots and fear just came over me because my son was out here. I opened up the door and my son was diving in the house. He's 10-years-old and he was out here. Like five gunshots went off before my son made it in the house," she said.

Additional officers were called to the area when a crowd that had gathered became disorderly.

No arrests have been made in the shooting and anyone with information is asked to call police.
