Bucs: Slaten Replaces Cruz For Time Being
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) -- Pirates reliever Juan Cruz has been placed on the restricted list, and Doug Slaten has been called up from Triple-A Indianapolis in his place.
Cruz has gone to the Dominican Republic to deal with "personal matters," as the team addressed it.
Pirates manager Clint Hurdle expects Cruz back by Friday for the team's road trip to Milwaukee.
In the meantime, veteran reliever Doug Slaten has joined the Pirates' bullpen. Slaten, 32, has been lights out for the Indians in Triple-A, going 2-0 with a 0.36 ERA and eight saves in 20 appearances.
He joins Tony Watson to give Pittsburgh two left-handed options in the bullpen.
