Kings Beat Devils In Game 1 of Stanley Cup Finals, 2-1

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) -- The Los Angeles Kings won Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals in overtime, 2-1, on a goal by Anze Kopitar.

Justin Williams took a puck by the boards near the Kings bench and flicked it to Kopitar, who was wide open breaking towards the Devils blue line.

He took the puck, approached New Jersey goaltender Martin Brodeur and sent the puck past his outstretched leg for the goal and the win.

Devils defenseman Anton Volchenkov had tied the game late in the second period and both teams played to a scoreless third period, forcing overtime.

Colin Fraser scored the game's opening goal at the 9:56 mark of play in the first period for a 1-0 Los Angeles lead.

Kings goaltender Jonathan Quick stopped 17 of 18 New Jersey shots, while Brodeur stopped 23 of 25.
