'T' Riders Complain About North Side Station's Escalator

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Riders are complaining about broken escalators at one of the Port Authority's new T stations.

Most of the escalator problems have been happening at the North Side station.

"When I get off sometimes, I'm tired and want [to ride the] escalator up, I look at it and say, 'My goodness, it's broke again?'" Mark Griffie, a commuter, said.

The Port Authority says of the 16 new escalators installed for the North Shore Connector, the one at the North Side station is most problematic.

The independent contractor, Schindler, is trying to get to the bottom of the problem. It's described as a communication problem within the system.

It's not clear when the problem will be fixed.

"They had deadlines to meet to get the trolley running, so I'm sure the escalator wasn't on the top of their priority list," Brandon Myers, a commuter, said.

The Port Authority says it is working with the contractor to figure out how to fix the communications problem, but there's no clear timetable.
