Groom, Best Man Take Golf Cart On Route 19

PETERS TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- A local groom is facing charges for a late night joy ride on his wedding night.

Police say he and his best man refused to wait for the hotel shuttle, so they took off in a golf cart and left the reception.

Police say Michael Mishko and Ian Hopkins hathed a plan to borrow a golf cart from the Rolling Hills Country Club and drive the nine miles to the hotel where the wedding party was staying.

They made it as far as Waterdam Plaza.

"He immediately went after them," Peters Township Police Chief Harry Fruecht said. "He knew something was amiss."

They were headed south on Route 19 when officers spotted them.

"They thought it would make it a memorable occasion for them to drive to the hotel in a golf cart while everybody else took a bus," Fruecht said.

The best man was driving. He passed a field sobriety test.

Both were cited for disorderly conduct. Mishko was also charged with public drunkenness.

Since the golf cart was returned to the country club in good condition, they will not be prosecuted for theft of property.
