World-Class Runners To Compete In New Downtown Race

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - Another major race is coming to Pittsburgh as GNC is partnering with Pittsburgh Three Rivers Marathon to hold the first GNC Liberty Mile.

"It's fast, it's easy, it's one mile versus 26, anyone can do it," Patrice Matamoros, a spokesperson for the Pittsburgh Marathon, said.

World-class runners will compete in the one-mile road race for a $25,000 prize purse. There will also be male and female winners who will take home $4,000 each.

"Pittsburgh's a good running community, I think you'll get a lot of participation from something like that," a runner said.

The event will be held on Aug. 17, at 7 p.m. on Liberty Avenue between 17th Street in the Strip District and Sixth Street Downtown.

"Anything I can do to keep in shape is good," Kevin King, of Dormont, said.
